Auditions

Auditions are held prior to the rehearsal start date for each concert. They are announced in the local media and on our website. If a member has not sung with PCS for more than two consecutive semesters, then he or she will need to re-audition. Chamber Choir members must re-audition for Chamber every year.

Auditions for the 2011-2012 Fall & Winter concert are now closed.  Auditions for our March and June 2012 concerts will be January 5, 2012. Please contact Janice O’Toole, Executive Director, at 509.597.8917 or otoole3@inlandnet.com to sign up for an audition.

Concerts

The Palouse Choral Society typically performs three or four concerts a season, which runs from early fall through early summer.  A typical concert season includes performances in the fall, December, and late spring or early summer.  Some seasons my include a Chamber Choir concert and Caroling performances.

Membership

A person is a member of PCS when they have passed their latest audition and are currently singing in the Chorale. There are currently no annual dues, but members will be asked to purchase their own attire, and may be asked to pay for their own music. Scholarships may be available for those who are unable to join the Chorale because the dress would be a financial hardship.

This is a donations-based organization. As a volunteer, not-for-profit organization,  PCS is kept alive through members’ willingness to volunteer. Members can contribute in various ways, including serving as an officer, donating money, or helping with a committee’s mission. Committees include: Marketing, Advertising, Posters Up!, Riser Crew, Box Office, Technology, Finance and Investment.

Rehearsals

Throughout the season rehearsals take place every Monday night, with occasional holiday breaks.
Rehearsals are held at the Moscow High School Music Room on Mondays 7:30-9:30 (with an option of rehearsing until 10 pm). Members of the Chamber Choir convene for additional rehearsal time 6:30-7:25.

To kick-off rehearsal of a new season, the Chorale often holds a one day retreat on a Saturday in August or September.

Finally, in the week prior to a performance, one or two dress rehearsals will be held at the designated performance venue(s) for a weekday evening or weekend during the day.  Concert attire is not required at dress rehearsals.

Rehearsal schedules are published prior to the start of the season.  The Artistic & Music Director may make changes if necessary.  Section Leaders may also call rehearsals of their sections.

Absentee Policy

The absentee policy is at the discretion of the Artistic and Music Director. Generally, two or three missed rehearsals are allowed.  Missing one dress rehearsal counts as two misses. Absentee policy for Chamber Choir may be more restrictive.  Although it is possible for a member to commit to a shorter segment of a performance season, it is preferred that, when a member auditions, he/she commits to performing for the entire season.
